The Department of Pediatrics in Choithram Hospital is one of the earliest to pioneer many advancements in pediatric care in central India including pediatric ventilation, neonatal intensive care and pediatric subspecialities for the last 40 years.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Choithram Hospital is a multidisciplinary unit that provides care for infants, children and adolescents who become critically ill or injured. It has 8 beds and a full time Pediatric Intensivist and trained nurses and residents round the clock.
It is a comprehensive set up well equipped to handle pediatric ventilation, pediatric peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis and total parenteral nutrition.
The many physicians, nurses and allied medical care professionals who work in the PICU have the knowledge, skill and judgment to quickly assess and treat your child so he can achieve the best outcomes possible from critical illness or injury. 
Equipped with advanced technology, our multidisciplinary team improves survival, speeds recovery, minimizes disability and relieves pain and suffering in a caring and respectful manner.

Conditions that commonly cause critical illness and injury include:

• Severe infection
• Poisoning
• Drug overdose
• Trauma
• Neurological, cardiac or renal problems
• Congenital anomalies and pediatric surgery
• Hematological or immunological disorders
• Besides managing pediatric COVID patients we also have managed more than 30 post COVID MISC ( multi-system inflammatory syndrome) in our PICU.The Neonatal Intensive care Unit ( NICU)
  This 20 bedded level III NICU is accredited by the National Neonatology Forum. It has a full time in-house neonatologist, trained nurses and residents. There is also a fellowship program in neonatal care. Our unit is equipped with the latest technology and advances in neonatal medicine. For more than 25 years, we’ve cared for babies with all types of conditions and congenital malformations.
  We provide care for neonates who need acute medical care, including ventilation, dialysis, total parenteral nutrition, therapeutic hypothermia, phototherapy, multidisciplinary evaluations, complex surgical intervention. Our success stories include preterm neonates as small as 600 grams and prolonged ventilation as long as 1-2 months. We also managed to save the first neonate with post COVID MISC.

We have 6 days a week ( Monday to Saturday) out patient clinics catering to general pediatrics with daily vaccination services.
We have several sub speciality services including Pediatric Neurology, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Gastroenterology & Pediatric Hematology
Pediatric Neurology- Patients with developmental delay, epilepsy, autism, inborn errors of metabolism, duchene muscular dystrophy, malformations of the brain are evaluated and managed using state of the art radiological, metabolic and genetic tests. We are the first centre in central India to provide Ketogenic diet for difficult to treat epilepsy for the past 10 years.

Pediatric cardiology 

Patients with congenital heart disorders such as tetralogy of fallot, TGA, TAPVC, VSD, ASD, PDA,AS,PS, coarctation of aorta, arrhythmias etc are evaluated by our specialist pediatric cardiologist. Pediatric ECHO, catheterisation, and interventions are carried out here. Many cases of device closure of ASD, VSD or PDA, balloon dilatation of coarctation of aorta, aortic or pulmonary stenosis, PDA stenting, balloon dilatation and management of takayasu arteritis , pericardial effusion drainage have been done efficiently at our centre with good results and safety.

Fetal Echo (specialised echo done before birth in pregnancy) is available here which can detect congenital heart defect and rhythm abnormalities before birth so their counselling and management can be planned/ done in utero or early after birth.

Pediatric Gastroenterology

Choithram hospital is a pioneer in providing dedicated Pediatric Gastroenterology services in Madhya Pradesh through the services of a well qualified and trained Pediatric Gastroenterologist. Patients with celiac disease, chronic diarrhea, chronic constipation, recurrent abdominal pain, liver disease, upper and lower GI bleeding are managed here under specialist care. Department also has the state of art endoscopy facilities including diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, Pediatric ERCP and EUS, Anorectal and esophageal manometry, 24h pH monitoring.

Pediatric haematology

We have a full time consultant in pediatric haematology trained to manage children with blood disorders like anemia ( including thalassemia, sickle cell anemia etc), cancers ( eg leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumours etc), bleeding disorders ( eg haemophilia). She is also trained to perform bone marrow transplants for various disorders including leukemia, thalassemia and other cancers.
Thalassemia Day Care Centre
We cater to about 100 patients with Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia and provide packed red blood transfusions, chelation services and supportive medical services to them at subsidised cost.

Vaccination Centre

All pediatric vaccines are available Monday to Friday 9 Am to 4 PM in the Pediatric OPD by trained doctors and nurses according to the guidelines of the Indian Academy of pediatrics.

Prayas

We have a comprehensive centre for special children including children with autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and other disabilities. Our staff include occupational therapists, physiotherapists, special educators, speech therapists and clinical psychologists.

Pediatric Transport Services

Academics

We have a postgraduate training program (DNB) Pediatrics as well as superspeciality training in Neonatology. We have an active teaching curriculum and our consultants have a strong academic bent of mind with regular research and publications in international and national journals besides authoring chapters in various textbooks. Our consultants are invited nationally to deliver lectures on a variety of pediatric problems. We conduct regular seminars and workshops on various pediatric problems.
