Department of Gastroenterology at Choithram Hospital and Research Centre is one of the most advanced centers to treat diseases of entire Gastro-Intestinal Tract; Liver, Pancreas, Gallbladder. It is equipped with most advanced state of the art endoscopes to diagnose and treat the diseases. The Department of Gastroenterology is also recognized for liver transplantation. The department is well supported by Surgical Gastroenterology for all complicated GI surgeries like Whipple's; Surgeries of GI tract; Liver and Pancreas. Most advanced Interventional Radiological Procedures like TACE, TIPS, RFA for liver cancer are routine procedures in the department.

    Diagnostic UGI Endoscopy

  • The Department of Gastroenterology uses the Olympus Exera 190 scopes including NBI for early detection of cancer and other GI diseases and disorders. 

  • Therapeutic UGI Endoscopy

  • The Department of Gastroenterology carries out the following procedures: 

    • Endoscopic Variceal Ligation

    • Haemoclipping

    • Foreign body removal 

    • EMR/ESD for early cancer 

    • Poem for Achalasia

  • Diagnostic Colonoscopy

  • The Department of Gastroenterology carries out diagnostic colonoscopy to identify the disease or problem for further consultation. 

  • Therapeutic Colonoscopy

  • The Department of Gastroenterology carries out the following procedures: 

    • Polypectomy 

    • Haemoclipping 

    • EMR, ESD 

    • Prosthesis Replacement 

  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP)

  • The Department of Gastroenterology carries out all kinds of therapeutic ERCPs with stone removal from CBD, MPD, Stent Replacement, etc.  

  • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

  • The Department of Gastroenterology carries out all diagnostic EUS for

    • Hepatobiliary

    • Mediastinal Lesions ESP

    •  Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC)

    • Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB)

     

    The Department of Gastroenterology carries out all therapeutic EUS:

    • Cystogastrostomy 

    • Choledocho-Duodenostomy 

    • Hepatico- Gastrostomy 

  • Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC)

  • Argon plasma coagulation is a medical endoscopic procedure for controlling bleeding, telangiectasia and  radiation proctitis. 

  • Capsule Endoscopy

  • The Department of Gastroenterology offers capsule endoscopy for:

    • Wireless endoscopy ESP  

    • Diagnosis of Small Bowel Diseases like Crown's disease; tuberculosis 

    • Disease of Large Bowel 

  • Single Ballon Enteroscopy

  • The Department of Gastroenterology performs single balloon enteroscopy for diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of small bowel diseases

  • Manometry

  • The Department of Gastroenterology performs the following medical procedures: 

    • Oesophageal Manometry to diagnose ailments in patients having chest pain with no coronary artery disease. It's is also used for diagnosis of Achalasia and Gerd; to diffuse oesophageal spasm. 

    • Anorectal Manometry for diagnosis of chronic constipation, stool incontinence and defecation disorder. 

  • Liver Clinic

  • The Liver Clinic caters to all patients presenting with jaundice, itching, swelling over feet, abdominal distension, blood vomiting, blood in stool and black stools. These symptoms represent variety of acute and chronic liver diseases, and liver failure due to: viruses, excessive consumption of alcohol, overuse of certain medical drugs, metabolic disorder like Wilson's disease; and autoimmune liver diseases. The Liver Clinic caters to the requirement of specialised tests for diagnosis and long term treatment. 

  • Liver Transplant Clinic

  • The Liver Transplant Clinic is a specialised clinic for evaluating patients who need liver transplant and; for patients who ave undergone liver transplant and require long term follow up. 

  • IBD Clinic

  • The IBD Clinic is for patients suffering from ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, indeterminate colitis, microscopic colitis and intestinal tuberculosis. These patients not only require long term treatment, however, they need to be screened at appropriate time to diagnose the arising complications and sequelae for their cure.  

  • Pancreas Clinic

  • The Pancreas Clinic is for patients suffering from recurrent attacks of pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatitis due to excessive alcohol consumption, children and adolescent who may have hereditary pancreatitis or idiopathic pancreatitis. The Pancreas Clinic gives special attention to the diet and development of the patients. 

  • Paediatric GI and Liver Clinic

  • The Paediatric GI and Liver Clinic treats children suffering from recurrent abdominal pain, liver diseases due to metabolic disorder, chronic diarrhoea and not gaining height or weight.
