PAIN CLINIC

Overview

Pediatrics surgery is a sub-speciality of surgery pertaining to patients ranging from newborn to 18 years of age. It comes with its own challenges that differentiate it from other surgeries. Whether it is the small size of babies and children to be operated or dealing with their responses to illness or surgery. Every aspect of pediatric surgery needs special attention. The pediatric surgeon at our institute has been trained from premier institute AIIMS and is proficient in performing pediatric surgical/pediatric urological and pediatric oncological procedures.

Services

Common Operations

Condition like inguinal hernia, hydrocele, and undescended testis are being treated with excellent results. Theses operation are usually done as daycare surgery.

Neonatal Surgery

Some of the congenital defects in newborns, if not treated immediately after birth, will result in death viz. congenital diaphragmatic hernia, esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula, neonatal intestinal obstruction and anorectal malformations ( imperforate anus). Some anomalies require very aggressive preoperative care so that the baby is in an optimal condition for operation viz. Abdominal wall defect omphalocele, gastroschisis. Other birth defects include spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Antenatal diagnosis by maternal USG has given another dimension for better newborn care by early postnatal referral for surgical intervention in relevant cases.

All kinds of emergency and elective newborn surgeries are being performed in our department with good results.

Pediatric Thoracic Surgery

Anomalies of lungs like congenital lobar emphysema, congenital pulmonary adenomatoid malformation, cyst in lungs, bronchogenic cysts and mediastinal masses are being treated. We also perform bronchoscopies in children to remove inhaled foreign bodies from the air passages. We also perform decortications of lungs in case of chronic empyema by thoracotomy as well as VATS also.

Pediatric Urology

Abnormalities of the kidneys and bladder account for 35% – 40% of surgical cases in children. Operations are done for both congenital and acquired clinical conditions of the kidneys, uterus, bladder, and urethra in children including in newborns as well as older children. A common condition requiring surgical interventions include procedures by hydronephrosis, vesicoureteric reflux, and posterior urethral valve.

We are routinely performing surgeries using minimally invasive procedures by cystoscopically performed procedures or Laparoscopic procedures.

Pediatric Gastrointestinal Surgery

Complicated surgeries of the Gastrointestinal system and hepatobiliary system are routinely undertaken. These conditions include surgeries for Anorectal malformations, Hirschsprung’s diseases, malrotation of gut, biliary atresia choledochal cysts, etc. among others.

Pediatric Cancer

We are well trained in managing surgical treatment of childhood solid tumors like Wilms tumor (Tumor of the kidney), Neuroblastoma, Rhabdomyosarcoma, Teratoma, Lymphoma, Hepatoblastoma, testicular and ovarian tumors, etc.

Pediatric Plastic Surgery

Plastic reconstruction of childhood anomalies like cleft lip, cleft palate, Hypospadias, and epispadias repair is being undertaken with good results. We are well trained in performing feminizing genitoplasty and male genitoplasty also in cases of DSDs

Pediatric Minimally Invasive Procedures

Routinely provided minimally invasive procedure include diagnostic as well as therapeutic laparoscopically done procedures, Esophagoscopy, and bronchoscopy to remove foreign bodies, thoracoscopy to perform, diagnostic as well as therapeutic procedures like VATS – Decortication, eventration repair, CDH repair, TEF repair. Cystoscopy for PUV, and deroofing of ureterocele.
