The occupational therapy department, Choithram Hospital & ResearchCentre organized one day CME on "occupational therapy for Autism'"addressing sensory, motor, behavior, school, core issues and social skill aspect of children with Autism. This workshop gave the intervention aspect which is itself is unique. This workshop benefited pediatricians to understand when and where occupational therapy services are important & required, counselor/special educators/speech therapist for approaching team efforts in the treatment of autism and Occupational Therapist to upgrade their interventional methodology.
It is the second consecutive workshop organized by Occupational Therapy choithram Hospital Indore and the only institute in central India organized so (not even college of Occupational Therapy,SAIMS has organized yet).
Chief guest: Dr. Kamna Jain, HOD pediatrics CH& RC, spoke about services developed and benefitted for a child in NICU, early intervention and of course in the habilitation/rehabilitation phase at our center. She also emphasized on a team approach.
Speakers: 1) Dr. Anant Sharma (OT), CH & RC delivered a talk on sensory processing and behavior issues in relation to the neurological development of the child as well as diagnosis and intervention based on different frames of reference.
2) Dr. Sarang Puranik (OT), KEM hospital, Pune spoke about the importance of core muscles, specific behavior issues and social skill development in children with Autism.
